The Apples in Stereo: “Energy”

January 4th, 2007

One of the best things about the Apples in Stereo is that nearly every one of their albums is considered their best by a considerably large group of their fans (except Velocity of Sound — sorry, buddy!). For me, it’s Discovery of a World Inside the Moone. Well, actually it was. Now with the release of New Magnetic Wonder looming large, I’m not sure which of the two will reign o’er my heart. But really, can’t they both?

MP3: The Apples in Stereo - Energy
When I first heard “Energy” debuted in a tiny bar in Lexington, KY over a year ago, I told Robert that I thought it was one of the best songs he’d ever written, which was quite a fine compliment to pay, considering that Discovery of a World Inside the Moone was my Bible for 2004.

Now, two calendar years and one record deal later, the Apples have made good on dusty demos and packed local shows: they’ve created more perfection. Everything, literally everything about “Energy” sounds like it was perfectly weighed and balanced to sound as good as possible. Growing from a jangly acoustic intro into a glorious pop hit that sounds like the Zombies writing for Schoolhouse Rocks, “Energy” is the Apples in Stereo at its finest.
