12 Days of Mixmas: Day 7
Sure Juror

December 20th, 2006 · No Comments

I have no idea how I first found Sure Juror, or if they found me. I'm willing to bet Myspace was involved. But over the past year, they played the first show I booked in Lexington and released their superb second album, Smut. MP3: Sure Juror - Making Friends Has Never Been So Easy And showing again that the members of Sure Juror tend to be a little, er, sexual (what, naming an album Smut wasn't a tip?), the boys have put together their favorite songs to have sex to. "Smut Jams '06" by Sure Juror MP3: The Knife - We Share Our Mother's Health (Luke's pick) To be quite frank, this whole record provokes sex for me (how about those phallic masks in the promo shots), from the slow motion, seasick gyrations in "The Captain" to the slick ghost-speak on "One Hit". But the synthesizer blitzkrieg bop in "We Share Our Mother's Health" is the best song for my erotic 2006. At club-level volume, the spitting percussion and propulsive bass synth sensuously vibrates every inch of my flesh. The electro tones gliding in and out at an urgent, terror-filled pace and tenor. Between every vocal line the singer gasps for breath, conveying the emergency and ecstasy, a double movement of pleasure and violence. Perhaps a perfect song for sex during wartime? Subversive sex? Under duress sex? Whatever the stakes, this song's haunting eroticism will be an excellent addition to anyone's sex/mixtape. MP3: Nine Inch Nails - Closer (Midge's pick)This song has been at the top of my 'songs-to-f***-to' list since it came out, but I've yet to find that special someone with which to help fulfill my aural fantasy. Just listen to that synth part...How could you resist humping along to that? ... But how silly would I feel reciting Reznor's chunk of breathy spoken-word poetry into my partner's ear: "I drink the honey/Inside your hive/You are the reason/I stay alive." MP3: Iggy and the Stooges - Raw Power (Sean's pick)Even before we knew what 'punk' was, the Stooges were pushing us to be something new, something contradictory. MP3: Krzysztof Penderecki - Threnody for the Victims of Hiroshima (Drew's pick) Now let's all wipe the cocaine from our moustaches, and just relaaaaxxx. Post-coitus style. David: " " (David has never had sex). Mixmas 06 Day 6: Ryan Allen of Thunderbirds Are Now! Day 5: Michael Nau of Page France Day 4: Greg from Oh No! Oh My!
