Let’s continue the trend of posts lately, shall we? 2007 is going to be one sweet year. Another great example? Busdriver’s new album Roadkillovercoat is nothing short of spectacular. And now, because I’m going to be rocking it for at least half of the six hour drive to Atlanta this weekend, here’s a song that will most likely wind up on my year’s end list in about a year and three weeks.

MP3: Busdriver – Casting Agents and Cowgirls
I’m always interested in the trade off between a song’s lyrical impact and its ease of absorbtion. Basically, to get your message across — political or otherwise — you have to make it appealing, but not so much so that it overshadows the actual message. Take Stiff Little Fingers’ “Suspect Device” for example. It’s got a great message that everyone should hear during their developmental years, but usually I just get caught up singing the stutteringly mad chorus.

Busdriver is like that.

On this new album, Busdriver’s lyrics and his delivery are in a constant battle for your attention. If I can quote my last review: “Busdriver delivers his lyrical wit with the speed of a Shakespearean work fired from a cannon.” Songs like “Casting Agents and Cowgirls” offer spectacular criticism of our culture, but I can promise you that at least once you’ll get caught up in his lightning fast delivery or the near-perfect production. But really, when choosing between two great things, you can’t help but win. So have at it.
