Earlier yesterday Clap Your Hands Say Yeah posted two new songs on their web site. In addition, they also tossed this gem up on their Myspace profile. And as someone who had listened to the live recording of “Satan Said Dance” about one hundred times (thanks, Rich!), it feels good to finally have a studio version. MP3s available 1/16; physical album on 1/30 from Insound.
MP3: Clap Your Hands Say Yeah – Satan Said Dance
With this one, Clap Your Hands Say Yeah are making a run for the prize of having created the “yelp rock” version of “I am Trying to Break Your Heart.” It’s long, groovy and just weird enough so that you pick up something new upon every listen. In “Satan Said Dance,” Clap Your Hands have envisioned a new hell: “no whips, no chains, just dancing, dancing, dancing…” And while it might sound like fun to be a whirling dervish for a couple of hours, the guys of Clap Your Hands Say Yeah make sure we know that doing it for eternity is quite literally a hellish prospect. Still, with a bass line as good as this one, it’s easy to get caught dancing; even if it is just a short one.
