Au Revoir Simone’s new album, The Bird of Music, comes out in the UK in January. While there’s no US release mentioned, I’m pretty excited for it.
MP3: Au Revoir Simone - Fallen Snow
If I could play director for just a minute: I see “Fallen Snow” opening with the three girls of Au Revoir Simone stepping out of their house into the dead of winter; each is bundled nicely in furs of a different color. And in a move that just barely avoids being too Disney, they begin to sing. “Fallen Snow” is a song of empathy: “Nothing hurts like seeing you hurt like me,” say the girls. And as it’s a song about love that’s gone, the video doesn’t end the way you’d expect. There is no thaw. No animals come to frolic. Rather, as the three finish the last note, the camera drops to find one plant struggling to grow in the snow. At least, that’s what I get from “Fallen Snow.”
