I tell ya, 2007 is going to be the best year for music. Adding to an already impressive list of January releases is Menomena with Friend and Foe on Barsuk Records.

Menomena are preaching the indie rock gospel, and “Muscle’n Flo” could very well be the message of hope that kicks off the good news. Never the ones to spend too much time fretting over lyrics, Menomena instead orchestrate a roaring swell of sound. Drums crash overtop of hypnotic bass lines, while guitars pause just long enough for a delicately beautiful piano melody. And just when it seems almost too perfectly put together, the keyboard plays the part of the organ to their indie gospel choir and they cry out to anyone listening: “Come, lay down your head upon my chest.” Beautiful. Just beautiful.
