Joe and David make up the northern folk duo That’s Him! That’s The Guy!. I think that maybe Joe is in the wonderful band Canada as well? Whatever, these guys are good enough to stand on their own merits.

Think for a second, what happens when pop drops its superficiality and the folksy thing loses the pretentious coffeehouse atmosphere. I get the feeling that that’s where That’s Him! That’s the Guy! are shooting for with their album, Help Me, I’m on Fire. “These Days” has the pop likability of Page France, and tries to mix that with the introspection of The Mountain Goats. But instead of drawing upon his stepfather for inspiration a la Darnielle, TH!TTG! go with their perpetual habit of lying to themselves about improving their alcohol intake.
