Oh No! Oh My! @ Alchemize 10.27.06
November 4th, 2006 by Matt

New songs, when played live, scare me. I don’t know the words, they’re usually lame and sometimes the band doesn’t seem comfortable with them yet. Not so with Oh No! Oh My!
Of the two new songs debuted, neither failed to delight me. There was the Pixies-esque pseudo-shouting coupled with soaring chorus present in “Go to Work,” along with the more catchy side of new wave to be found in the other. Together they worked well with old favorites (“Bike Sir,” “Party Punch”) and fan favorites from their self-titled release (“Walk in the Park,” “I Have No Sister”).

Setlist aside, even Oh No! Oh My!’s performance seemed in top form. They extended some songs, added crazy breakdowns or dramatic pauses in others, and just generally (pop)rocked out. Then of course there was the drunken banter and awkward “yes I remember your email” conversation with the opening band, The Long Distants. Still, it was charming and endearing.
