Gael Garcia Bernal: “If You Rescue Me”

I saw Science of Sleep earlier this week and was thrilled to discover that they had a scene involving this switched-up cover of the Velvet Underground’s “After Hours.”
MP3: Gael Garcia Bernal – If You Rescue Me (Chanson des Chats) (Velvet Underground coverish)
Sort of sounds like a masculine Nouvelle Vague doing the cover, doesn’t it? This slow, bossa nova type cover reworks the lyrics of “After Hours,” a song about seclusion, into an adorable song of solidarity. In the movie, they perform it in cat costumes and really play up the angle of the narrator as a kitten, but it works just as well from the human perspective. After all, do both species not enjoy a good snuggle when it’s cold?

Of Montreal are streaming a new song “Wicked Wisdom” on their Myspace. It’s a wild one. It’s not a part of the official tracklisting for Hissing Fauna…, but might wind up being a bonus song on the vinyl release.
