Being that I spent the last month in a smitten haze, I’m just now getting around to hearing the new Black Keys album, Magic Potion, which comes out Sept 12th. Superb stuff.

The last time I saw The Black Keys, “Blue Orchid” by the White Stripes had just leaked online and the backlash was starting. I asked them about it and they sort of chuckled. A short but interesting conversation about the popularity of modern blues bands ensued, but they refused to say anything negative about their contemporaries: I guess “Your Touch” is their answer instead. While it might be a little bit more rocking than delta or Chicago blues, you can’t deny that their hearts are in the right place. There’s nothing ostentatious about their delivery, and for that alone, they succeed.
