Last time De Novo Dahl rolled through Lexington I had to miss them because I was busy making my way to Bonnaroo. With no major life-changing festivals lined up, this time I was ready to rock out with one of the South’s finest bands.

I have heard De Novo Dahl’s concert experience described as both a “party in a box” and “unique.” There’s been talk of costumes, themes and even food being involved. So while their costumes and strings of lights might be considered high class for most bands, that was apparently a somewhat calm night for De Novo Dahl. Not, of course, that there’s anything calm about a De Novo Dahl show.

Thursday’s show was a nice showcase of older material (including “The Funk” and “Be Your Man” off Cats), but the real winners were the new songs. “Shout” and “Subject of the Kill” especially got a great crowd response, as did another one they debuted that dealt with heros.
