Mark today as giving me another great way to wake up. When I checked my mail today, I was pleased to discover Summer Hymns’ new album Backward Masks waiting for me. Summer Hymns have long been a staple act of the Elephant 6 music community, and are readying what could be their most enduring album to date.

If Outkast liked the way you move, Summer Hymns love the way you walk; but where they really differ is the way they express their devotion to your motion. “Way You Walk” is a sweet kiss of folk paired with the gentlest embrace of pop–think M. Ward, My Morning Jacket or a less batty Danielson. It’s a shame the album won’t come out until November. This is music that basically defines a lazy summer’s day.
