Surprise, surprise. These Australian wunderkinds are cute, poppy and sound more than a bit like fellow Aussies, Architecture in Helsinki (check the intro to “High In Your Saddle” for a sax homage). While The Panda Band might not be as gutsy as them, prefering instead to stick to unique arrangements for more standard songwriting styles, they’re unique enough to keep them from appearing to be anything more than influenced by AiH. “Sleepy Little Deathtoll Town” is a romping circus tour through the center of town. People are explained and landmarks pointed out. Nothing’s glossed over; everything bad is presented along with the good.
