The M’s: “Turn On, Tune In, Drop Out”
August 9th, 2006 by Matt

What a day. I got to wake up to a new Bishop Allen song (and EP with a flawless new version of “Walk On By”) and now I’m eating lunch to The M’s cover of an Isley Brothers song. These Chicago titans are re-releasing their debut album on Polyvinyl records and are including in a 7″ with a cover of the Isley’s “Turn On, Tune In, Drop Out” in two parts.

From Timothy Leary and the Isley Brothers to the M’s and every college radio DJ ever, “Turn On, Tune In, Drop Out” has–in some form or another–been a call to action as much as one to just phase out an enjoy some good music. In this case I think your best bet might be the latter.
