Spin.com had some nice things to say about this new Thunderbirds Are Now track. In addition to offering it for download, they also got this nice little quotation about the song from lead singer Ryan Allen:
And while Allen admits the song’s title has little to do with its lyrical content, the moniker comes as “a pat on our own backs from us to say in a slightly cocky way we’re hoping to win the battle between bullsh*t music and not.” When asked if his band achieves this objective, Allen joked, “Probably not — we just write a bunch of disco-punk.”
MP3: Thunderbirds Are Now! – We Win (Ha Ha)
I think the most difficult part of Thunderbirds Are Now!’s job is to capture their live energy onto their records. If you’ve seen them live, you know that there’s something about them that can’t be recorded. It’s a certain air and energy that just radiates from the stage. Why do I bring this up? Well, I think “We Win (Ha Ha)” is a step in the right direction. No, it doesn’t give you close to an idea what they’re like live, but Make History has enough driving songs like “We Win (Ha Ha)” to make up for that.
