Klee: “This Is For Everyone”
July 21st, 2006 by Matt

When I woke up today I thought to myself, “this is a good day for Klee.” After a couple listens through Honeysuckle, I can safely say that I wasn’t wrong.

Dedication songs are normally a cop-out. I can rarely shake the feeling that bands often use them to form an easy, though fake, bond with the listener. So by saying “this song is for anyone who’s ever felt lonely,” you’re obviously going to have a wide group with the possibility for connection. But with Klee’s “This Is For Everyone,” they’re almost poking fun at my bitterness. Each line gives a somewhat general, but often poetic, dedication (“This is for everyone who who realize that in the sorrow of sadness, beauty lies.”), then just in case you didn’t fit into one of those, they decide to just go ahead and dedicate it to everyone. It’s sugary-sweet, and I’m not entirely sure how to take it, but hey–it’s pop music. It’s about feeling good and having a grin on your face.

I’m guest blogging over at Skatterbrain while Matt is out of town, so be sure to stop in and say hey. Please excuse all the reposts and lame things I’ll put up. If you haven’t noticed, I haven’t really had time to run one blog well, let alone two!
