Bishop Allen announced on their site that their bassist, Christian Owens, would be leaving the band to start her own, Music Magic. I don’t know too much about the full lineup, but apparently Jane Magazine just did an interview with CO that’ll be posted by next week.

Fortunately whatI do know is that Music Magic’s first song they’ve featured on their site is incredible. It’s a cover of Gene Clark’s “So You Say You Lost Your Baby,” which is to be part of a Gene Clark tribute album called Gene and Covers, which will be put out by Groover Recordings.

MP3: Music Magic – So You Say You Lost Your Baby (Gene Clark)
I have a couple friends, which shall remain nameless, who do not like bands fronted by women. What compounds my confusion is that most of these “chick-rock haters” are also women. After hearing Music Magic’s cover of “So You Say You Lost Your Baby” by Gene Clark, I think I know why these girls won’t listen to girl-rock; it’s because they’re jealous. You can’t tell me that Christian and the other Music Magic folks don’t just kill with this song. They know just how to harness in the song for cute verses, then give a stirringly strong delivery on the chorus.

IGIF has a post on The Top 15 Title Tracks of the Minute. I actually did this as a time waster the other day with one of my friends. “In the Aeroplane Over the Sea” and “Ziggy Stardust” topped our lists, but they’ve got a lot more ones than that. For example, I totally forgot to put “Mass Romantic” on there. D’oh!
