Casper and the Cookies: “Krotenwanderung”
July 6th, 2006 by Matt

Man, I’m tuckered out. I spent the last five hours running around Lexington with Cameron and Pam (or Pameron, as they’re affectionately known), and I’m about ready to turn in for the night. Luckily, I had a band saved up for just such an occurance. For me, Casper and the Cookies have long been one of those bands that I liked, but never knew a whole lot about. Now with the release of The Optimist’s Club I’ve not only filled my head with their delicious lyrics, but also a slot on my top albums of the year list!

Say it with me now: “Crow ten wander ung.” I actually had a German friend of mine (hi Lenny!) pronounce it in a hilariously anglo-fied manner so I could get it. But basically, as you might imagine after listening to it, “Krotenwanderung” is about tadpoles. It sounds like something the Essex Green would concoct, if they wanted to be a little edgy and weird. “Barking in the Garden of Ill Repute” is a deliciously hard to keep up with song that showcases Casper at his best. Male and female lines not only intertwine, but downright compete for your attention. Depending on if you focus on one, the other, or the pair, as to what experience you’re going to get.

Apollo Sunshine this Saturday at Alchemize! Who’s pumped? I’m so excited that I went back and read the interview I did with AS last year. Okay, not really; but it sounds better than saying ‘hey, go read my interview.’
Also, I’ll be seeing Sound Team and Cold War Kids in Cinci a little later this week. Check out The Anchor Center’s nice interview/feature on Sound Team. If you’re not familiar with TAC, he does video productions that combine interviews with live footage taken at Alchemize. It’s really interesting stuff.
