Man, it seems like every time I step away from the internet for a weekend, the whole place erupts with some new material; this time it was Sub Pop favorite, Chad VanGaalen. His new album, Skelliconnection, is a suitable follow-up to Infiniheart and will likely not disappoint.
MP3: Chad VanGaalen - Mini TV’s
If you had cloned Beck in 1995 and put the clone in suspended animation for a few years, Chad VanGaalen would be the result. While far from the Beck of today, “Mini TV’s” wouldn’t be out of place on Mellow Gold or One Foot In The Grave. I think the main reason that I offer you this comparison is that Chad manages to combine some laid-back folk stylings with a harmonica and some curious other musical accoutrements to form a curiously crafted, but good, tune. Sounds pretty Beck to me.
If you live in Lexington, there are a lot of good things to do this week. There’s a free jazz show at Mecca tonight, a “free” (suggested donation) show at the Icehouse on the 4th, and Friday gives you your choice of either Petticoat Petticoat’s CD release at Mecca or Parlour Boys at the Dame.
