2 Many DJs

July 1st, 2006

Well, our show went off without a hitch. Our set was pretty good and the instudio session by These United States was exceptionally performed; I didn’t mess up the levels too badly. It was pretty funny when they brought up You Aint No Picasso in our interview. Then I joked that they were only plugging it because they were on the front, which delighted them. They didn’t know I’d featured them, and the bassist joked that he only read Fluxblog. Oh you web-savy bands!

So before I run home to Elizabethtown to do some late birthday stuff, here’s something from two DJs–2 Many DJs to be exact.

As uncharacteristic as it might be, I’m a big 2 Many DJs fan; and something about seeing VHS or Beta DJ on Friday and DJing with Cameron made me go and pull out my “copy” of As Heard On Radio Soulwax pt 9 for you fine people.

MP3: The Rapture - House of Jealous Lovers (2 Many DJs remix)
MP3: Sonovac - Human Fly (The Cramps cover; 2 Many DJs mix)
Remember that episode of Futurama where “God” tells Bender that if you do things right, people won’t be sure you’ve done anything at all? Remixing and DJing is a lot like that. To see a good DJ spin live is all about seamless transitions and matching up things so well that songs sound like they might as well have been composed with each other in mind. 2 Many DJs do all that and more with their Radio Soulwax work. The Rapture get a dancefloor workover that is a complete shot in the arm to the drawn-out intro to the original, plus the robot voice of Benny Benassi’s “Satisfaction” at the end. After repeated listens, I really can’t imagine it done any other way.
