Clap Your Hands Say Yeah: “Upon This Tidal Wave Of Young Blood”

June 26th, 2006

It’s my birthday and I’ll post what I want to. Call them over-hyped or what you like, but there’s a reason Clap Your Hands Say Yeah took off like a rocket in ‘05: they’re darn good. For the past year or so “Upon This Tidal Wave Of Young Blood” has been a song that I can put on repeat and never grow tired of it.

MP3: Clap Your Hands Say Yeah - Upon This Tidal Wave Of Young Blood
Having never seen Clap Your Hands Say Yeah in concert, I have to fantasize that if I did see them, they’d open with this number. I mean, how could they not? It’s warm, inviting, and the first lyrics would be great to kick off a show: “Now that everybody’s here, could we please have your attention.”

The thing I’m most curious about is why I find “Upon This Tidal Wave” so relaxing. Much like (part of) its name would imply, it almost seems to ebb and flow in waves. I don’t know if it’s the steady acoustic guitar or the cymbals that crash every two measures, but something just sets me at ease when I listen to this song.

Chris has a Hot Chip remix of Jim Noir.
