Sigur Ros, Shonen Knife, and Yulduz Usmanova all taught me that you don’t have to speak my language to be understood. They’re all non-English-speaking musicians or bands that still get their point across despite the language barrier. Now I get to add Prototypes to that list. This French band don’t have a lick of Engish on their new self titled album, but I’m hooked.
MP3: Prototypes - Danse Sur La Merde
If I might English-up Prototypes’ Isabel Le Doussa, I’d say that she’s developed a comfortable niche between the ferocity of Karen O and the sexual quality of voice of Goldfrapp. Of course, you could also draw a pretty easy comparison between the musical style of Goldfrapp and Prototypes as well. Both rock out like electroclash/electropunk and have more than their share of vocal hooks.
If you’re even mildly interested in this song, I’ve got to suggest that you pick up the album. I seriously debated for ten minutes over which song to post. There are about four songs that are among the best I’ve heard all month.

Any French YANP readers want to explain the title to me? Is that to be taken literally? If so, ew. What’s this song about anyway? Send help. Love, Matt.
As with all good indie pop, Matt Fluxblog got it first. Check Fluxblog for “Je Ne Te Connais Pas.”
The DIY Rockstar had a nice interview with Asaurus records. I had a nice conversation with Eric from The Apples in Stereo about Asaurus after he noticed that I was wearing one of their shirts.
