Tender Trap: “6 Billion People”

May 25th, 2006

Oh Matinee, you’re too good to me. The home to the Lucksmiths and Math and Physics Club has delivered another spectacular album, this time by pop songstresses Tender Trap. The band is probably going to be best known as Amelia Fletcher’s newest project (Heavenly, Talulah Gosh, Marine Research, Sportique), but is strong in their own right.

MP3: Tender Trap - 6 Billion People
I remember being in about the 7th grade when it was announced that the world’s population had reached six billion people. Let’s put that together that with the notition of “soulmates” and see that it gets really depressing, really fast. As Amelia Fletcher asks, overtop of some “I Will Follow Him”-esque backing vocals, how can you expect to find “the perfect one?” The sad truth is that we can’t really expect to; but if you can realize that it’s going to be hard, and still write a pop song like this, I’d say you’re off to a good start in life.

For any aspiring writers: PopMatters is taking submissions for new columnists. I’d apply, but I know squat about those areas. Maybe next time, eh?
