The past three days I’ve fallen asleep in my chair. Why, you ask? Because of bands like Boat. I’ve featured Boat long ago, but now they’re proud to announce their new album, Songs That You Might Not Like. If the whole album’s as good as this song indicates, it looks like I won’t be getting to bed any time soon.

Tullycraft fans gone right? Lucksmith-weened musicians? Pants Yell! contemporaries? However you want to label Boat, chances are that you’ll miss out on something important. That’s the problem with labels. How do you communicate all the different sides of a band like Boat in a easily-digestible phrase? You can’t, really. I’ll stand by the three comparisons I offered, but I don’t know that it can get better than Boat’s own words: “it’s a sloppy/poppy mess.”
