This Story put my hopes on a rollercoaster yesterday. They friended me on Myspace (up), had a description that sounded like something I’d enjoy (up), only had live recordings on their profile (down), they were amazing (up), I found out they didn’t have any studio recordings (down), but that they were recording right now and would have them soon (way up). All in all, it was a net gain of a lot of happiness. Who doesn’t love discovering a young band and getting to listen as their sound grows–especially when they sound this good.
MP3: This Story - Madeline Get Your Gun (live)
I kind of hesitated to post this one. It’s a live recording, and you can’t really make out all the words. But the reason I went ahead with it is the fact that it’s so good. Smoosh Page France together with the folksy side of Bright Eyes, add a couple members to both bands, and you’ve got This Story: it’s cute twee-folk at its best. They’re recording right now, and if the studio version of their stuff turns out half as good as their live recordings would imply, we’re in for quite a treat.
Also, if you didn’t catch the mention on the bottom of my MIA/Snoop post, I think this article about the Stephin Merrit ‘racist’ issue is probably one of the best that I’ve read in a long time.
