The (International) Noise Conspiracy: “Baby Doll”

May 16th, 2006

As I said before, I’ve spent the past couple days working on a lot of junk that needs to be settled, most by June 1st. One of the less boring of these tasks is getting my good friend Cameron signed up to be my co-DJ at WRFL when I move back to Lexington. It’s going to be fun, because our musical tastes aren’t quite identical. I like most of what she likes and vice versa, but it should be interesting. To celebrate our impending DJship (nothing set in stone, though), here’s a covertune that represents both sides of our show: The (International) Noise Conspiracy’s cover of “Baby Doll” by N.E.R.D.

MP3: The (International) Noise Conspiracy - Baby Doll (N.E.R.D.)
One of the first times that Cameron introduced me to a song that got stuck in my head (for better or worse) was N.E.R.D.’s “Don’t Worry About It,” which she called her ‘theme song.’ Me? I like a little more rock to my music, which is probably why I’m in love with T(I)NC’s cover of this N.E.R.D. tune. It maintains the smart rhythm section–a staple of any great hip-hop song–but throws in a dash of jerky, post-punk guitar work. Most especially, note the lead guitar which folows lead singer, Dennis Lyxzén’s vocals as the perfect counterpoint to his spot-on delivery.

If everything works out, I think my show with Cameron will be on from 6-8PM on Friday nights, streaming at WRFL881.org. We’re thinking of naming it “Awkwardly Hilarious With Matt and Cameron” but nothing’s set in stone. Anyway, I’ll be sure to let you know if/when it’s on.
