The Apples In Stereo Theme Song
May 13th, 2006 by Matt

It’s no secret that I’m waiting for the new Apples in Stereo album, New Magnetic Wonder, like it was the cure for a polio. Robert’s been leaking a couple demos around Lexington and it’s sounding absolutely fantastic. In the mean time, the Apples recorded a special song to be released online for the listening pleasure of their fans. It’s not as great as some of the demos or live versions of the new album songs are, but it’s still a wonderful piece of pop artistry.

I’ve always thought of the Apples in Stereo as cartoons (thanks in no small part to their involvement in the Powerpuff Girls soundtrack, which is where I first heard them); this theme song only furthers that idea. It’s very lighthearted and quick–not like real life at all. And while the rhyming is very Oasis (i.e. chair, hair, bear) it’s not enough to hurt the song. In a way, the song is a silly treat for fans, much like “Dracula,” the song Robert released as Marbles last Halloween.

Remember, kids: the Apples in Stereo and You Aint No Picasso remind you to get your mother something good for Mothers’ Day! Pitchfork totally gave being stingy a 0.1
