The Polyphonic Spree: “Light and Day”
May 11th, 2006 by Matt

I have, for some time now, been afraid to really listen to The Polyphonic Spree out of the fear that they wouldn’t live up to my expectations. It wasn’t that they’d been hyped up to Arcade Fire proportions, but rather it seemed like the type of music that I’d enjoy–so much so that I was scared of being let down. But now that school’s over, I’m having time to catch up on songs that have been suggested to me. Plus, “Light and Day” was one of the two songs that were accidently left off of my spring mix (this one because I didn’t have an MP3–the other because I just forgot!)
MP3: The Polyphonic Spree – Light And Day
I like to think humans have evolved (or ‘matured’ if you prefer) to the point where our emotions are no longer easily manipulated; people like Tim DeLaughter keep making me rethink that idea. With “Light and Day,” he seems to have stumbled upon some formula for causing elation and joy within the human spirit. Its rallying cry of a chorus seems to reach straight from your ears down into the very center of your chest, where it tinkers with your emotions until you’re singing out loud and looking around for other smiling faces.
BONUS MP3: The Polyphonic Spree – Five Years (David Bowie)
Other Matt at Skatterbrain has the new Pipettes song “Pull Shapes” online. Go get it!
