The Minders: “Don’t You Stop”
May 8th, 2006 by Matt

The Minders will be releasing their new album, It’s A Bright Guilty World on July 18th. Also, be on the lookout for their July/August tour which looks like it will be hitting Texas and Kentucky quite a few times if you catch my drift (did somebody say “Lexington show?” I think I did). In the mean time you can pick up the next installment of what’s shaping up to be one of the finest years for the Elephant 6 kids.
MP3: The Minders – Don’t You Stop
First of all, let me appologise for the far-too-obvious E6 comparisons; but in this case I think they apply pretty well. “Don’t You Stop” feels like the melding of Elf Power’s Walking With The Beggar Boys and The Essex Green’s Cannibal Sea. It’s got guitar parts have made me question if I was listening to Andrew Rieger instead of Martyn Leaper, and a chorus that I’d swear were written by the holy songwriting trinity of Essex Green. The funny thing is, my original annoyance at this song has now turned into my favorite portion–I love the curious stretching of the word “stop” in the chorus. The only thing I can compare it to is the musical equivalent of that pause when a roller coaster is practically stopped at the top of a high peak, right before it shoots downward. So hey, toss your hands up and enjoy it.
I’ll be in Lexington most of today to get everything ready for the Robot Ate Me / Oh No! Oh My! / Jason Zavala / Sure Juror show at Underlying Themes. If you’re able, be sure to come out to the show and say hey! If in doubt about which one I am, I’ll be the shaggy kid who’s probably humming Fleetwood Mac’s “Don’t Stop.”
