New Hockey Night Demo: “Save the Clock Tower”

April 12th, 2006

In celebration of their show Saturday night at The Dame, Hockey Night sent me one of their new demos for the as-yet-untitled LP to be released later this year. It (of course) lacks the polish that the final number will no doubt have, but it’s still evident that this is one one impressive song. No word yet on whether the song title is a Back to the Future reference. Here’s hoping.

MP3: Hockey Night - Save the Clock Tower (demo)
Hockey Night really flex their muscles with this one. “Save the Clock Tower” contains (in this order) a proto-indie sounding intro (think Pavement), a twisting dual-guitar solo, a catchy pseudo-refrain of ‘ba da da da’s, and a minute long instrumental send-off. It’s wild and it’s every bit as enjoyable as it sounds.

Hockey Night will be playing at the Dame in Lexington, KY this Saturday night

Is this not the best shirt ever? It spells “Hate” when you look at it straight on, but “Love” when it’s seen in a mirror. Someone please translate the order page and tell me if they’ll ship to the US.

Speaking of buying things, I got my vinyl copy of Of Montreal’s Cherry Peel in today. Head over to Polyvinyl and pick you one up before they’re OOP again. Now the fun part: wait for my Aldhils Arboretum to get here from Europe!
