Peter Walker: “39 Stars”

April 6th, 2006 by Matt

I woke up “early” (1pm, don’t rush me) to go down and pick up a copy of Wildcat Weekly so I could see if my article had been edited (it hadn’t really), when I discovered that I had a package. What beauty should await me, but the new album by Peter Walker? The sticker’s right, it’s very Neil Young and very Wilco.

People are going to think that I’m crazy, but after making the initial Wilco comparison, I immediately jumped to the Smashing Pumpkins. It’s partly his voice, and partially the nature of his songwriting. But yes, it’s very alt-country/Wilco-ish. Thankfully he’s smart enough to make his own music and not rip off the masters.
