I’ll admit that Mike Andrews got my attention just because he scored the cult hits Donnie Darko and Freeks and Geeks. His new album Hand on String runs the gamut between jazzy instrumentals and light folk songs.
MP3: Mike Andrews - Orange Meet Lemon
There is a thin line between what Mike Andrews is doing and what you might hear on an elevator. It seems like “Orange Meet Lemon” is something that would be right up NPR’s alley. It’s nice, non-offensive and has some jazzy elements to it. But even though it might dabble a bit close to “easy listening,” it’s still curiously appealing. My roommate keeps a “sleepy time” mix, and I’m pretty sure this is going to feature heavily on it from now on.
