New Snow Patrol: “Hands Open”

March 27th, 2006

Snow Patrol’s new album, Eyes Open, has started to leak. I haven’t heard the entire thing, but one reader was kind enough to send this my way. The album’s due out May 1st in the UK and Ireland and May 9th in the US and Canada.

So there’s this rack of tshirts at CD Central that alternates between the best designs (Ted Leo’s simple logo on a green shirt) and the worst (Sonic Youth written on a washing maching for no reason). For the past couple months I’ve had my eye on this Snow Patrol shirt with two eskimos on it, but never could bring myself to buy it. The reason? I’m not that big of a Snow Patrol fan. I like “How to Be Dead” just fine, and Cory got me into “Get Balsamic Vinegar…Quick You Fool!” about a year or so ago–but other than that, I’m not too keen on them.

It looks like “Hands Open” might change all that. The guitars crunch and rock through this one like they’re taking on all comers; but the vocals reveal that typical Snow Patrol softness. And hey, if you’re not won over yet–they name drop Sufjan Stevens. Yup. Apparently his girlfriend’s a fan of “Chicago.”
