Euros Childs: “My Country Girl”

March 26th, 2006

I don’t know how I never listened to Euros Child’s (Gorky’s Zygotic Mynci) solo album when it was released. Maybe I was still fawning over Bishop Allen’s EP projects? Anyway, it’s a delightful little romp that sounds a bit Brian Eno at times, and a bit kooky at others. Gotta love those batty geniuses.

I need to make a mix of songs that are longing for the simple, country life–or in this case girl. “My Country Girl” is pretty straight-forward; it’s Euros with a guitar and a himself on backing vocals. If nothing else, he gets my respect for keeping this one short. Ordinarily I’d be clamoring for more, but I think he played to his strengths on this one. No boring solo. No repetition of the first chorus. Euros made a good song at under two minutes, and decided to keep it that way.

The Features were wonderful. I have photos (not good ones though) and will do a review later. But now it’s time to do a load of Journalism. Maybe I should save myself some time and apply for MTV’s new reality show.
