New The Dears: “There Goes My Outfit”
March 19th, 2006 by Matt

Montreal darlings, The Dears, have featured a new demo on Bella Union’s website. Entitled “There Goes My Outfit,” the song features Murray Lightburn on guitar and vocals. While the demo is pretty bare, it’s just a glimpse at the full-band version which will appear on their upcoming album.
MP3: The Dears – There Goes My Outfit
At first I thought I had misread this as a Decemberists’s demo. The warm acoustic guitar showed a side of The Dears that I wasn’t familiar with. I guess I shouldn’t be that surprised, though. In most of their songs, the guitar is there somewhere. But it’s just so strange to hear it from a band that always seemed to draw their strength from the sounds of a full band. But even so, this song still manages to be every bit as powerful as you’d hope. It’s REM and The Smiths–updated for 2006.
