New Grizzly Bear: “Owner of a Lonely Heart” (Yes cover)

March 14th, 2006 by Matt

I’ve been meaning to give Grizzly Bear a listen for quite some time now, and my second chance arrived today. Sorry for the Delay is made up of seven of the very first demos ever put together by Ed Droste of Grizzly Bear. I figured this Yes cover would appeal to diehards and new fans alike. After all, it drew me in and I’ve only listened to a song or two off Horn of Plenty.

MP3: Grizzly Bear – Owner of a Lonely Heart (Yes)
It’s a glorious, floating minimalist composition! I love it when bands don’t take the easy road with a cover. Sure, Ed could have played it safe and slowed down some Husker Du or Mountain Goats. But to try to de-pop this Yes hit? Well that takes some guts. Luckily for Grizzly Bear (and my ears), their gamble pays off. You probably won’t be belting this one out as you drive to work, but rather will probably enjoy it more at night. I guess they’re like the Castanets in that regard. This isn’t daytime music–save this for the night.

Preorder Sorry for the Delay

I watched 24 for the first time last night. I think I’m hooked. At least we have that unlimited rentals thing at Blockbuster so I can catch up on the seasons fairly quickly.
