Student Film: “D Sanchez”
March 13th, 2006 by Matt

Student Film got my attention fast. For starters, they recorded a lot of their songs with help from the co-creater of one of this year’s best albums: Allan Vest of Starlight Mints. After finding that out, it was only a matter of seconds until I was listening to this song. It’s a great way to kick off spring break, or to start your midterms.

While this walks dangerously close to Starlight Mints territory, I’m not ready to say that they’re trying to emulate their associates. “D Sanchez” is carried along mostly through the strength of some superb use of instruments. Now, I don’t mean that they’re experts in the manner in which they play them. Actually they seem to be quite basic guitar and piano parts. No, the real beauty of this song comes from the expert arrangement of said instruments. The intro’s a stomping good time, and it doesn’t slow down from there.
Dodge, Chris and a whole slew of bloggers have descended upon Texas for the SXSW music festival. Be sure to watch their websites for updates (thought I think Kevin from SMS is updating GvB for a week or so)
