*Updated With Set 4*
Last night Yo La Tengo played their yearly set of by-request covers live on WFMU to aid in their fundraiser. While I was a lukewarm fan of WFMU prior to last night, I’m now a big fan. The same’s true with YLT, actually. I only have I Can Hear The Heart Beating As One. But after hearing their covers, I’m in love.
The concept is simple enough: if you called in with a donation of $100 or more, you got to request a cover for Yo La Tengo to play on-air. They ranged from the weird and obscure (the Batman theme) to the classic and beautiful (John Lennon’s “Instant Karma”).
I’m posting these because they were free to listen to online. But like the annoying announcers (who I have edited out), I’m going to strongly suggest that you make a donation to WFMU.
Because there are a lot of songs covered, I’m going to have to rip them throughout the course of the day. Check back for updates.

Thanks.
Can’t wait for the rest.

PS. not that it really matters, but both the Beefheart track and the Thunderclap Newman track are numbered “6″.
