The Celebrity Pilots

The Celebrity Pilots will be playing at the Southgate House in Newport, KY Jan 13th. If you guys are able to make it, it looks like it’d be a good one. If you don’t live in the Blugrass, check out their tour dates to see if they’re coming to your town.

MP3: Celebrity Pilots – Lemons From Lemonade
MP3: Celebrity Pilots – We’ve Lost Kasparov
The thing that strikes me as strange about these two songs is how much they’re able to achieve, while still managing keeping their reserve. Both songs are undeniably powerful…but for no reason other than every instrument and vocal part all work together to achieve a great sound. They’re not quite minimalists in the same way that I would call the Castanets minimalists, but they really know how to make the best use out of a couple instruments and a sweet melody.

Also, let me take this time to vent. UK’s internet connection was very screwy the past two days. All last night I couldn’t log in to blogger or make a post (as a result, my WAS interview had to be pushed back to today) and I couldn’t read or reply to email. So hopefully today I’ll be able to bring the volume of posts back to a comfortable medium.

As I read in the comments here and on Facebook, it looks like Robert Schneider will be the special guest tomorrow with The Melody Function. If all goes as planned, I’ll be there with bells on.

But for now, it’s time for me to go to bed. I’ve got a 10am class tomorrow.
