My friend Cory gave me a ride home from my other friend’s house (hi Kara!) today, and on the way back I noticed that he’d bought I Wanna Be Well by The Lil’ Hospital. We’d been talking about them for a week or two, but I had no idea his love for them was deep enough that he took the plunge and bought the album. So needless to say, I went straight home and gave them another listen (actually, I went straight home…then out…then home then listened - but the point is still there).
I think that when I first judged The Lil’ Hospital, I let their limited production get in the way of my judgement. With most bands as cute and quirky as TLH, I was accustomed to elaborate production and layouts. But then I realized that it’s okay to have just a few instruments and a point to the song. Once I’d learned that lesson, I was ready to get down to business.

I’m willing to bet that a lot of you (like myself) will initially overlook the bass line that’s rocking it in the left channel. It’s not quite a driving one like the kind that might be featured in an Of Montreal single, but it’s providing a good backbone anyways. This could very well be the theme song for some of you who find yourselves unable to say no to a new project or are just plain run ragged. You busybees you.

Ah, this song is a bit closer to home for me. Not only does it contain more horns (me likey), but as far as I can tell, it’s about college friends. Who hasn’t worried abotu keeping in touch with friends?
The Lil’ Hospital’s next album, Heavy Metal will be coming out on Totally Gaylord Records.
So I broke and took some vicodin tonight. My jaw was killing me and I didn’t think asprin would cut it. However, it’s been about ten minutes and I still feel no effects. Not only that, but the aching in my jaw has increased. Am I missing something? (ps: I love how the end of my posts have turned into an opportunity for me to complain about how much my mouth hurts. It’s like having a captive audience to listen to me whine!)
On the plus side, Other Matt has some very early Radiohead demos!
