I first heard this song when I downloaded a bootleg of The Flaming Lips performing at Big Day Out in Sydney a year or two ago. I quickly fell in love with it, but it wasn’t until this week that I thought to check out the original. I had known that the Lips worked with The Chemical Brothers on it, but didn’t know to exactly what extent or who had written it.

I don’t know if it’s because the live version was the first one I heard or what, but I really prefer it. I guess it’s most likely the fact that Wayne’s voice seems more alive in that one. It’s almost like he’s relating a real story, rather than reading it out of a book. But as far as songwriting and the theme of the song, I’ve got to say that I love them both.
Thankfully I left my gums alone last night and I was able to eat at my favorite Chinese restaurant today. It was delicious.
Oh, keeping with the theme of ‘I’m not really cool as evidenced by the fact that I’m late to get into everything good,’ I’m just now discovering Arrested Development. I’ve watched all of Season 1 so far, and I’m renting part of Season 2 after I play some games at my friend’s house. Consider this your opportunity to make fun of me for taking forever to get into one of the best shows (sorta) currently on the air.
