Okkervil River, “For the Captain”

Matt from Skatterbrain sent me this song to help cure my academic woes (I have a test in less than 12 hours and I’m drastically unprepared). Hopefully it can help you guys out, or at least prepare you for the weekend.

MP3: Okkervil River – For the Captain

Oh, a lot of you have been asking when I’m going to put up my best of 2005 list. I hate to burst some bubbles, but I like to wait until the year’s over. Haha. It’ll most likely go up on New Year’s Eve. Similarly, I hope to make a list like the one at StG. Not-so-subtle hint: “For Real” will probably be in the top two songs.

Stereogum has Franz Ferdinand covers of Air and Stefani.

Sorry for the lame and small post. I’ll do my best to make up for it tomorrow afternoon. Wish my luck on my Accounting test!

  1. ah, “for the captain.” is this the version from stars too small to use?

they re-recorded this song for black sheep boy appendix and renamed it “another radio song.” i think the new one is just slightly better!

  2. you gotta check out the bsb appendix version of that song cause it’s a lot more than just slightly better.

  3. Adam? lol I can already tell you that TLF will not be my #1 for the year. Sad but true. However, they’ll be on the list without a doubt.

  4. Thanks for loving Okkervil River. I’m glad they’ve been on the year end lists, but it’s nice to see someone actually posting about them. Got to see them twice this fall already, and seeing them at the KEXP benefit next week with any luck. Love your blog!

  5. I envy you, “D.”, I’m underage and have only been able to see Okkervil River at Bumbershoot and when they opened for the Decemberists several months ago.
