Indie Covers Bonus Songs!
July 27th, 2005 by Matt
Due to the overwhelming success of my indie top 40 covers, I’ve decided to upload a couple “bonus” songs for you all. Some of these didn’t make it because they weren’t exactly top 40 stuff, and others didn’t make it because I didn’t receive them until after I’d posted the mix.
MP3s:
01 Flaming Lips – Bohemian Rhapsody (Queen)
02 Belle and Sebastian – Video Killed the Radio Star (Buggles)
03 Of Montreal – Colour Me In (Broadcast)
04 Arcade Fire – Naive Melody (Talking Heads)
05 Travis Morrison – What’s Your Fantasy (Ludacris)
06 Sonic Youth – Superstar (Carpenters)
UPDATE! Revolution in the Head posted a huge collection of Belle and Sebastian covers that are totally awesome.

Thanks for the link, and I hadn’t heard that Buggles-cover before. Great!

some great picks, i like the Flaming Lips covering Queen, i was surprised that their cover of Kylie Minogue’s “I just can’t get you out of my head” wasn’t on their, it’s incredible and fits the theme perfectly.

Live covers are soooo good !!! It’s such a great feeling when the audience realize it’s a cover and sing along all the song !!

I had forgotten how far Travis Morrison had fallen since the break up of the D Plan. Thanks for reminding me…

Love the covers! Thanks for two great sets. BTW and just for strict accuracy, “Naive Melody” is a Talking Heads cover (tho’ no doubt penned by Mr. Byrne); the full title is “This Must Be the Place (Naive Melody)” and it appears on “Speaking in Tongues” and the “Stop Making Sense” film & soundtrack.

Yeah, that’s why I have (Talking Heads) after it ;) If you’re talking about how the mp3 is labeled, I didn’t do those. I just uploaded them exactly as I’d received them.
I’m glad you all are liking these, though :) For a while I was in danger of running into Copy, Right’s turf.

geez “bohemian rhapsody” sounds like it could have been on “the soft bulletin”. hm, I guess it would have to be about scientists though.
Thanks Matt, I love your blog!

You forgot the fact that the Decemberists did a cover of Bjork’s Human Behavior.. Which is studio recorded and awesome!

Travis Morrison has also covered Janet Jackson’s “When I Think of You.” D-Plan fans will remember that he would frequently work pop covers into songs (I remember Xtina’s “Dirty,” for one) at concerts.

Great covers on Vol 1 and the bonus selection. If you (or anyone else) ever comes across Sonic Youth’s cover of Madonna’s “Burning Up” my world would be complete!
