The Brunettes

July 25th, 2005

If the Raveonettes are James Dean, The Brunettes are the Fonz. Whereas the Ravonettes try to be all tough and rough (and any other words ending in “ough”), this New Zealand band is a bit more innocent, but no less in command. If you haven’t noticed by now, I have a bit of a soft spot for nostalgic bands (e.g. Locksley, The Raveonettes, etc) and this one is no exception. However, instead of shamelessly aping the fifties, each of these songs seem to exist in a time of their own. I’d suggest grabbing these songs while summer is still in full swing. I can’t imagine them evoking quite the same feelings in me once winter rolls around.
